The original 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered into service in October of 1861 and after serving in several campaigns and the loss of 244 members killed in action and another 425 wounded or disabled by disease, the 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment was mustered out of service in July of 1865.
Their namesake the 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment Reenactors, will return to the Havens Homestead Museum on Saturday and Sunday August 2nd and 3rd for their ninth encampment.
The Regiment’s mission is to educate the public by portraying the everyday life of the average Civil War soldier. The troops will demonstrate close order drill, rifle drills, including firing their weapons. A visit to a soldier’s dog tent will give the visitor a view of a soldier’s quarters, equipment, and leisure time activities.
