1938 WAR ADMIRAL-SEABISCUIT MATCH RACE !

The MOST FAMOUS and  TALKED ABOUT MATCH RACE of ALL-TIME! The RACE took place at PIMLICO on NOVEMBER 1,1938.  ALFRED G. VANDERBILT, PRESIDENT of the MARYLAND JOCKEY CLUB, persuaded SAMUEL D. RIDDLE(owner of WAR ADMIRAL), and CHARLES S. HOWARD(owner of SEABISCUIT) to run against each other for $15,000, winner take all(what a salesman). WAR ADMIRAL was the OVERWHELMING FAVORITE based on his TRIPLE CROWN SWEEP the year before, his invincibility in 1938, and his superior early speed. Everyone expected WAR ADMIRAL to go wire to wire. Well when the GATES OPENED, GEORGIE WOOLF(THE ICEMAN) took CHARLIE KURTSINGER and WAR  ADMIRAL by surprise, and gunned SEABISCUIT to the LEAD. WAR ADMIRAL made a gallant try and GOT NECK and NECK on the BACK STRETCH, but could not get by. SEABISCUIT went on to WIN by 4 3/4 LENGTHS. THIS is TRULY ONE of the MOST HISTORIC MOMENTS in the HISTORY of  THOROUGHBRED RACING!

November

Or was it June 14 1938 as this picture suggest?
